About Asana Alphabet
Asana Alphabet(tm) provides high-quality yoga classes for youth of all ages and teacher trainings in children's yoga. Whether sending a yoga teacher to a weekly kindergarten class, training a school teacher to integrate yoga into the classroom, offering complimentary online yoga classes during a pandemic or creating curricula that meets high educational standards, each program has been test-tried to ensure both learning and fun while integrating the mind and body through effective and authentic yoga techniques.
As we offer classes primarily in New Jersey and New York City, we acknowledge that the land on which we gather is the territory of the Lenape Peoples, who have stewarded this land throughout the generations. We thank them for their strength and resilience in protecting this land, and aspire to uphold our responsibilities according to their example and to uphold the indigenous voice in our classes and service.
Asana Alphabet yoga is for all. We welcome all races, colors, genders, national origins, religions, ages, and abilities as teachers, trainees and students to join in our programs. We are a woman-founded and directed business. As of July 2022, 100% of our faculty identifies as a woman with 75% of our current faculty identifying as Black or Latina. 100% of our current faculty is multi-lingual with fluency in English being one of those spoken languages for each represented teacher.
Ann Robideaux, founder and director, has been teaching adult yoga and children's yoga for over 30 years to kids of all ages and backgrounds. She is certified in Kundalini Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, Thai Yoga Bodywork, Prenatal Yoga, Structural Yoga Therapy and holds higher degrees in psychology, dance and choreography. In addition to meeting the Yoga Alliance standards for a 200ERYT, she has logged over 550 hours of training in the field of yoga and has taught over 11,000 hours of yoga classes (as of 2020). Having overcome severe injury in great part due to a daily yoga practice, she is a true believer in the transformative power that yoga, mindfulness, and meditation offer.
The Asana Alphabet(tm) philosophy is that the best learning is found through teaching experience; that is why we are committed to only granting children's yoga certification to kids yoga trainees who have observed classes and taught actual children in a real-life setting. Those who take our intensive trainings are given enough tools to begin teaching kids yoga confidently right away. As a Yoga Adept member of Yoga Unify and having been recognized as a CYS with the Yoga Alliance, our standards exceed the average expectations of the yoga industry.
Since its official legal founding in 2004, Asana Alphabet(tm) has donated over 2000 volunteer yoga classes, 1000 yoga mats to schools in need, and awarded teacher training scholarships to teachers working in underfunded public schools on a regular basis. We have partnered with over 50 different schools through out NYC since our founding and have expanded into NJ, PA, OK, Miami, Arkansas, Brazil, and Belize.
